Under Wisconsin Statute 83.60, the Town is responsible for the care and supervision of all highways within its jurisdiction. This includes construction, repair, maintenance, and ensuring roads remain passable year-round. The Town currently maintains approximately 78.81 miles of roadway.

During winter months, the Town prioritizes keeping roads open and safe:
Plowing begins after approximately 2 inches of snowfall
Main roads and high-traffic areas are prioritized first
Roads may remain snow-covered during ongoing storms
Sand and salt are applied as conditions warrant
Road Projects & Improvements
The Town completes ongoing road improvement projects each year. These may include resurfacing, reconstruction, or drainage upgrades.
For current or upcoming projects, please check back regularly or view posted meeting agendas and minutes.
Seasonal Weight Limits
Seasonal weight limits are posted each year during the spring thaw to protect Town roads from damage when roadbeds are most vulnerable. These restrictions should be expected annually, and residents and businesses are encouraged to plan accordingly.
The Town of Farmington follows the guidance of the Waupaca County Highway Department when implementing spring weight limits. Restrictions typically begin in early March and may remain in effect until mid-April, depending on weather conditions.
Please observe all posted limits. Updates will be shared on the Town website when restrictions are in place.
Driveways, Culverts & Right-of-Way
The Town right-of-way extends beyond the paved or traveled portion of the road and is reserved for drainage, utilities, and maintenance.
A permit may be required for new or modified driveways
Culverts must meet Town specifications to ensure proper drainage
Items placed within the right-of-way may be subject to removal
Please contact the Town before starting any work within the road right-of-way.
Reporting Road Concerns
Residents are encouraged to report issues such as:
Potholes
Drainage problems
Damaged or missing signs
Road hazards
To report a concern, please contact the Town Clerk or submit a request through the Town website.
Mailbox & Property Owner Responsibility
Mailboxes are considered private property. While Town crews take care during snowplowing operations, damage can occasionally occur due to snow displacement.
Residents are responsible for proper mailbox installation and maintenance.
If a mailbox is damaged as a result of snowplowing, the cost of replacement may be reimbursed. Replacement of the mailbox is the responsibility of the resident. Please save all receipts for the cost of replacement and submit them to the Town. Upon receipt, reimbursement will be issued through the Town’s contracted snowplowing company.
