Curbside Garbage and Recycling
The Town of Farmington contracts with Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal to provide curbside garbage and recycling services. The cost for garbage and recycling services is billed as a single annual charge on your property tax bill. For 2026, the rate is $20.64 per month.
Curbside service is required for all residential properties within the Township, including seasonal or part-time residences. Participation is mandatory for all standard residential units, regardless of occupancy status throughout the year. For example, if you will be traveling for an extended period of time, curbside services may not be canceled or temporarily suspended.
Businesses and commercially zoned properties have the option to opt out of curbside services and arrange their own waste and recycling collection. Businesses may also choose to participate in the Town of Farmington’s curbside service by requesting to be opted in.
If additional carts are needed, residents must contact Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal directly, as the Town’s contract includes only one garbage cart and one recycling cart per unit. Harter’s will bill residents directly for any additional carts. Please note that any extra carts are not included on the property tax bill and will be billed separately by Harter’s.
Collection carts remain the sole property of the collection contractor and shall remain with the residential unit, regardless of any change in property ownership. If a property is sold, the new homeowners will automatically be enrolled in the service and shall utilize the collection carts already assigned to the property.
Harter’s offers pickup services for furniture, appliances, and other bulky items for an additional fee. Residents are responsible for contacting Harter’s directly to schedule a pickup time and obtain pricing information. Any applicable fees must be paid directly to Harter’s by credit card over the phone. These fees are separate from the annual curbside fee. This service had not previously been offered by Harter’s to the Township; however, as of May 18, 2026, it is now available.

Accepted Items: Glass, tin, cardboard, newspapers, mixed paper, aluminum, plastic, grass, leaves, brush, vehicle batteries, oil filters, and motor oil.
Waste Disposal: A Pay-Per-Bag program is used for garbage. The cost to dispose of a 35-gallon size bag of garbage is $5.00. You pay nothing for the recyclables.

Accepted Items: Brush, trees, appliances, furniture, lightbulbs, tires, electronics, batteries, waste oil, used cooking oil, scrap metal, leaves, grass. There are fees associated with some of these materials.
