The Town of Farmington would like to remind residents to be vigilant when it comes to emails, text messages, or phone calls requesting wire transfer payments. Please note that the Township will NEVER send a request for a wire transfer, payment, or any other financial transaction through email, text, or phone call.
What to Watch For:
- Suspicious Emails or Texts: Any unexpected communication claiming to be from the Town of Farmington, especially if it asks for immediate payment or sensitive financial information, should be treated with caution.
- Urgency and Pressure: Scammers often use tactics that create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to act quickly. Official communication from the Town will never ask you to make a rushed decision.
How to Protect Yourself:
- Verify the Sender: Always check the sender’s email address or phone number carefully. Fraudulent emails may look similar to official addresses but often contain subtle differences.
- Do Not Click on Links or Open Attachments: Avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from unknown sources, as they may contain malware or phishing attempts.
- Direct Contact: If you receive a suspicious request, DO NOT respond directly. Instead, contact the Town of Farmington using official contact information from the Town’s website or past official correspondence to verify the request.
- Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect that you’ve received a scam email or message, please report it immediately to the Town or to your local authorities.
Stay Safe: Always take a moment to double-check before taking any action that involves money or personal information. Scammers are constantly evolving their tactics, but with awareness and caution, you can protect yourself from falling victim to fraud.
