Election Workers Needed – Join Us for the 2026 Elections!

Be a part of our democracy! The Town of Farmington is seeking dedicated community members to serve as Election Workers for the 2026 elections. If you’re reliable, detail-oriented, and want to make a difference, we’d love to have you on board. Compensation is $15.00 per hour, plus, a meal on us to keep you fueled!

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a qualified elector of the county (Waupaca County) in which the municipality is located (i.e., an adult citizen of the United States who has resided in the election district for 28 consecutive days and is not otherwise disqualified to vote)
    • In Wisconsin, election workers can serve in any municipality within their county, even if they do not reside in that specific municipality or township. The only exception is Chief Inspectors, who are required to live in the municipality or township where they serve.
  • Be able to read and write fluently in the English language.
  • NOT be a candidate for any office to be voted on at the polling place at that election.

Duties & Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Check in voters and verify registration using the electronic poll book
  • Assist eligible voters with registration
  • Issue ballots and monitor polling place equipment throughout Election Day
  • Answer voter questions while remaining non-partisan
  • Receive and verify absentee ballots
  • Complete required paperwork, tally write-ins, close the polls, and secure materials

The Town of Farmington uses an electronic poll book called “Badger Books” which is used to check in and register voters electronically. THIS IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. 

Hours & Commitment:

  • Polling places are open from 7:00am to 8:00pm on Election Day
  • Split shifts available: (the Clerk allows for some flexability when needed) 
    • 1st Shift: 6:30am – 1:30pm
    • 2nd Shift: 1:30pm – 8:30pm (or until all paperwork and materials are secured)
  • The Town of Farmington also assigns Special Voting Deputies to the Veterans Home before each election to assist members with absentee voting. There are two 2-hour shifts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, at both Moses and Ainsworth Halls. This requires a short training course in addition to the election day training.
  • Training is required prior to election work, and you will be compensated for attending. Dates for in-person training at the Town Hall will be provided by the Clerk as they are scheduled.
    • Wis. Stat. 7.33(3) Every employer shall grant to each employee who is appointed to serve as an election official under s. 7.30 a leave of absence for the entire 24-hour period of each election day in which the official serves in his or her official capacity. An employee who serves as an election official shall provide his or her employer with at least 7 days’ notice of application for a leave. The municipal clerk shall verify appointments upon request of any employer.

Elections Scheduled in Wisconsin for 2026:

  • 2026 Spring Election – April 7, 2026 (Non-partisan, Supreme Court Justice or judicial offices)
  • 2026 Partisan Primary – August 11, 2026
  • 2026 General Election – November 3, 2026 (Governor, State Legislature, or U.S. Congress)

There currently is not a 2026 Spring Primary Election scheduled. If one is held (which is likely), it will take place on February 17, 2025, and notification will be given.
